Government say firms must favour women and minorities

Harriet Harman, equalities minister, justifies her wish for firms to bias towards women by saying: "listen to this figure - if you are a woman working part-time you get 40 per cent less per hour on average than a man working full-time." In other words, shes trying to imply that women are getting paid 40p in the pound less than men due to discrimination, which is ABSOLUTE RUBBISH.

ABSOLUTE RUBBISH in capitals is an understatement! She's a two-faced liar.

The numbers she's comparing are averages taken over all jobs. And she knows it.

She's comparing cleaners with software engineers, not women with men.

And she knows it.

Yes, she MUST know it. She must have the best advisers and civil servants in the country. She has the full apparatus of the home office at her disposal.

I bet the only reason they included the age-discrimination clause is to force firms to employ women of child-bearing age. If I ran a business I'd NEVER employ a female under the age of 40

Labour haven't got much time left in office. Expect them to rush through a lot of this kind of draconian legislation over the next 18 months.

Theresa May is not putting anything like the pressure on the government she could and should be. Her response has been PATHETIC.

And this is what worries me. There is no opposition!

This is the same Theresa May who warmly welcomed the proposed legislation; the same Theresa May who believes in all-women short lists for parliamentary seats.

Another point about this bill is that it is in contravention of European law because of its sexual discriminatory nature. It will probably get rejected at some stage on legal grounds.

My guess though is that NuLab already know it. But, by the time it gets rejected, they will have got their point across and the votes they're after. And by then it will only be a minor of item of news. No one will notice.

This is how New Labour policy works. It's all news management.
